Angelina Pediatrics nurse practitioners and staff in collaboration with The Children's Clinic immunized 45 children at the 3rd annual Back to School Bonanza sponsored by the Junior League of Lufkin and Buckner Children and Family Services. Of the 45 children immunized, 120 vaccines were administered and 26 tuberculosis skin tests were performed. Nurses also screen 217 children to verify each child's immunizations records were up-to-date as recommended by the Academy of Pediatrics' immunization schedule. Since the inception of the Back to School Bonanza, Angelina Pediatrics and The Children's Clinic employees volunteer their time at the annual Saturday event in an effort to ensure every child starts the school year with the required immunizations. "Vaccines not only protect the vaccinated child, but they also protect others who are unable to be vaccinated due to age, allergies or other medical conditions," explains Robyn DeVore, nurse practitioner at Angelina Pediatrics. "We are also protecting future generations by vaccinating the children of today."
Angelina Pediatrics and The Children's Clinic offer the vaccines free to eligible children in hopes of increasing the rates of vaccinations in our community. "Our mission is to foster the health and well-being of children, and immunizations are an integral component to building healthy kids and communities," DeVore said. By partnering with other agencies and organizations for an outreach event such as the Back to School Bonanza, immunization accessibility and coverage rates have increased in recent years, which improves the overall health of our community.
